Bring Your Own Software License

Typically, cloud software licensing models operate on a subscription or pay-as-you-go basis, which works well for new solutions or replacing an existing on-premise solution. But what if you want to move your current on-premise solution to the cloud?

Analysts predict that within 5 years over 40% of businesses will run the majority of their IT infrastructure in the cloud.

IBM’s BYOSL policy allows you to leverage existing software investments by re-using your on-premise licenses in eligible public clouds – including Google, Amazon and Microsoft. This is key for all IBM Passport Advantage customers considering a move to the Cloud that isn’t a SaaS only model.

Just like with an on-premise solution however, organisations are still required to keep accurate records which confirm their cloud deployments are compliant with their license entitlements. ILMT should be implemented in these cloud environments to ensure consistent reporting with on-premise environments, and should an environment not be covered by IBM’s BYOSL policy, usage information must be manually recorded and made available to IBM.

IBM audits no longer just consider on-premise installations, so if you are running IBM software in the cloud, ensuring you meet IBM’s BYOSL reporting usage requirements is essential if you want to avoid having your cloud licensing assessed at full capacity. Elyzium can take care of all of this on your behalf as part of our Managed ILMT Service.
